The GMAT is an exam used by many graduate schools of business and
management as one criterion of admission. It includes three sections:
Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing. If you are a student pursuing a post-graduate degree in Business
and Management (e.g., an M.B.A.) and want to achieve a high score on the
GMAT, this is the appropriate course. Our preparation course provides you with the necessary
strategies and techniques for succeeding on the GMAT exam. You will benefit
from expert instruction, in-depth class discussion, and timed practice
with the questions.
Instructional Objectives/Learning Outcomes
The purpose of this course is to familiarize participants with all of
the question types appearing on the Graduate Management Admission Test
(GMAT) as well as with general strategies and techniques for succeeding on
the exam. Participants will have ample opportunity in class to drill
individual question types and to practice timed tests. Specifically,
participants will ...
- learn various techniques for improving their ability to read quickly
and completely
- become familiar with the six reading comprehension question types
that appear on the test and practice techniques for answering them
- receive instruction in the various English grammar and diction
points most frequently emphasized on the test
- receive instruction in composition
- write a sample of both the issue and argument essays
- be introduced to the various types of critical reasoning questions
that appear on the test and practice techniques for answering them
- review arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems and data
interpretation rules, formulas and procedures needed to answer GMAT
math questions
- practice the data sufficiency question until they are comfortable
with its requirements
- take timed tests to practice general test-taking strategies and
techniques such as process of elimination and "guesstimation".
Course Prerequisites
This class assumes that the student possesses a solid knowledge of high
school arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and word problems or has taken the
"Math Review for Standardized Tests" course.
