Q: Is a pretest and/or a post-test administered? Yes, a modified pretest is offered for diagnostic purposes. A post-test is offered to assess student progress at the end of the course. Q: Is the computer used during classroom instruction? No, the computer is not used during classroom instruction. D.E.R.'s goal is to teach CONTENT and STRATEGIES, with an emphasis on learning (or re-learning) and practicing material that will be included in the exam. Students are encouraged, however, to take the free POWERPREP tests offered by the Educational Testing Service and bring questions from those computer adaptive tests (CATs) to the classroom. Also, specific CAT strategies are covered. Q: What are the homework requirements? Participants should expect, at a minimum, two hours of homework for each hour in class. Q: What are the required materials? Students work from official Educational Testing Service preparation books which use actual test questions (from previously administered exams) and from a study guide prepared by D.E.R. Q: What is the average class size? Class size ranges from 15-25 students. Q: Will I receive direct instruction on the writing component of the exams? Yes, all participants receive instruction in composition and have the opportunity to submit essays for evaluation. Instructors will provide personal, individual feedback.
